Although for many of us, getting behind the wheel is an everyday occurrence, unintentional accidents, such as road traffic crashes, are one of the leading causes of deaths globally as well as in Malaysia. Nearly 1.3 million people were killed every year due to the road crash, with 20–50 million sustaining non-fatal injuries.
In fact, 90% of the fatalities occurred in low and medium income countries which only have 54% of the world’s registered vehicles. It has cost most countries 3% of their GDP. Without any sustained action, road traffic crashes are predicted to become the 7th leading cause of death by 2030. With such a grave risk, motorists should take every precaution possible to help prevent an accident.
