Technical Talk:
Principles of Reinforced Soil Wall Design and Construction
Date: 08 October 2019 (Tues)
Time: 6.00pm – 8.00pm
Venue: IEM Penang Secretariat
Synopsis
The speaker will share the fundamental in retaining wall design, especially in reinforced soil wall according to BS 8006-1:2010, by comparing the design differences for inextensible steel-based reinforcement and extensible polymeric-based reinforcement.
Wall design methodology from initial dimensioning, embedment requirements, external stability check (bearing, sliding, overturning & external slip) towards internal stability check by using tie-back wedge or coherent gravity methods will be discussed. Speaker will also share information on the requirements of reinforced & retained fill materials in accordance to BS EN 14475:2006, facings & connections, drainages, site constraint and some precautionary measure during construction which are equally important besides sound design.
Lastly, speaker will also share his experiences of project references using flexible Terramesh Wall in Penang and introduce the newly launched MacRes wall system in Malaysia.
