Modern Pile Testing Technology Seminar

Introduction
The objective of this seminar is to share with participants on the development of the modern pile testing
technology and provide a platform for the participants to exchange ideas on pile testing. Participants will have
an in depth understanding of the world patented innovative pile testing method for both bored pile and driven
pile, the YJACK Bi-directional Pile Load Test. YJACK Bi-directional Pile Load Test, JKR approved method, allows
pile testing to be carried out more conveniently, efficiently, economically and in a safe manner. The
presentation will cover both the theory and methodology of installing the hydraulic jacks within the pile itself
instead of on top of the pile, the installation of associated gadgets, instrumentation and testing procedures,
and the key benefits on using this method.

Synopsis
Pile testing is mandatory in the construction industry and it is universal across the globe. Traditionally, the
Kentledge method of maintained load test (MLT) was almost the only common method carried out on selected
piles to verify the design and to assess the adequacy of foundation piles installed. Where Kentledge is not
possible to be set up, reactional anchor piles were used. Development over the last 30 years saw a number of
new techniques been established to assess the integrity and carrying capacity of piles. Among them are the
pile integrity test, sonic logging, strain measurement, pile driving analysis (PDA), statnamic and the bidirectional
pileload test. Topic 1 attempts to provide an overview on the different methods of pile testing
available and Topic 2 highlights the Malaysian innovation, the YJACK Bi-directional Pile Load Test, a high
productivity pile test method well received by the industry.

Speakers
Mr. Wai Yee Kong
Mr. Wai Yee Kong graduated with Bachelor in Civil Engineering (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
(UTM) in 1991. Mr. Wai is the inventor of the world patented YJACK Bi-directional Pile Load Test. He has 28
years of experience in the static and dynamic pile testing. He became Certified Test Engineer (Advance level)
in 2004, accredited by Deep Foundation Institute, United States. He also holds two US Patents in dynamic pile
testing.
Mr. Wai had presented many technical papers in the international conferences in China, Indonesia, Hong Kong
etc. and sat in the CIDB advisory committee developing the Malaysia CIDB Construction Industry Competency
Blueprint. For his untiring advocacy of productivity in the construction, he was awarded the Productivity
Champion by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation.
