Synopsis

The 4th industrial revolution (IR4.0), popularly referred to as ‘Industry 4.0’ nowadays. Industry 4.0 will transform traditional manufacturing establishments into ‘smart factory’ through cutting-edge automation and manufacturing processes. This transition incorporates the most innovative advancements in areas such as Artificial Intelligent, Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data Analytics, Augmented Reality (AR), and Cloud Computing. Each industry will experience the propelling and disruptive effects of this process. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, many Malaysia-based businesses are predicted to start their digital transformation aggressively. Covid-19 is the catalyst of Malaysia SMEs towards Industry 4.0. Reports from Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) indicated that manufacturing accounts for over 80% of all exports and 23% of GDP. Industry 4.0 covers the complete end-to-end value chain, this includes design, production, supply chain, procurement, marketing, logistics and sales.

Biodata of Speaker

Ir. Dr. Tan Chee Fai

Ir. Dr. Tan Chee Fai has more than 20 years of working experience in the mechanical and manufacturing industry. Currently, Ir. Dr. Tan is the Vice President, Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). He is the Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering & Technology (AAET), Honorary Fellow of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO) and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). He is the alumni of Technical University Eindhoven (TU/e), the Netherlands and Stanford Graduate School of Business, USA. Currently, he is the Chief Technical Director, Robolab Technology Sdn Bhd. He is the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) appointed Consultant for MPC Go Digital project.

He is actively involved in intelligent strategic and advanced technical consultation to assist various industry towards Digital Transformation. He has led various Industry, University, and Malaysia Government as well as International funded projects such as EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and Industry4WRD Domestic Investment Strategic Funds (DISF). He is the Technical Expert for ISO/IEC Smart Manufacturing Standards Map Task Force (ISO/IEC SM2TF) since 2019. With the knowledge and experience, Ir. Dr. Tan has contributed as Keynote Speaker in various important international engineering events such as Annual Meeting of China Association of Science & Technology (CAST), FEIAP General Assembly, World Intelligent Manufacturing Summit (WIMS) and Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Future Engineers Conference. He is the UNESCO Consultant to assess and study on APEC engineering education.

Based on his contribution to the Malaysia engineering community since the year 1998, Ir. Dr. Tan was awarded as the 2014 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian Award Honoree. In the following year, Ir. Dr. Tan also received Ahli Mangku Negara (A.M.N.) [Member of the Order of the Defender of the Realm] bestowed by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia (The Supreme Head of Malaysia) in 2015.
