Safety Promotion & Injury Prevention: Can Advocacy Change Fate?
Date: 12 Dec 2019 (Thurs)
Time: 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Venue: IEM Penang Secretariat
Synopsis
The role of Human Factors in the causation of crashes and other untoward Incidents has often been politicized. The speaker will critically appraise the role of Human Factors in existing models of “Safety” with examples from transportation crashes, occupational, home and recreational injuries. A multidimensional approach to the study of Safety and Injury Prevention is recommended. He has advocated for the setting up of a National Transportation Safety Board to proactively improve transportation safety standards through independent no-fault investigation process (of near misses / crashes and sharing of such information), research and training and suggests that other areas of Safety be approached in a similar manner.
