Synopsis:

Development of urban rail transits is a most popular topic in metropolitan area in many countries, either in the form of LRT, monorail or MRT. Light Rail Transit system apparently becomes more popular for some cities in recent years. In this talk, the speaker will share with the audience his experience in the urban railway projects, focusing on the light rail transit system.

The speaker will first briefly introduce the various rail transit modes available, and the key considerations in the planning of the Light Rail System as compared to the other modern urban railway system such as Light Rail Transit, Mass Rapid Transit etc. The talk tries to define relevant terms and concepts, present an overview of the recent development of the Light Rail Transit system in Taiwan, the newly open Danhai Light Rail in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The Speaker will share his view on the topic in the planning of rail system and its relevant infrastructures, its relationship to the New Town Development will also be briefly discussed.

Biodata of Speaker:

Ir. Chua Huat Yoo

Ir. Chua graduated in 1978 with a BSc degree in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University in Taiwan. He then obtained his Master of Engineering degree in Structural Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand. Ir. Chua has more than 39 years’ experience in the engineering consultancy for various infrastructure projects in Taiwan and in South East Asia region.

Ir Chua was a Principal Engineer and Manager with Moh and Associates Inc. (MAA Group), a regional engineering consultancy firm. He worked in Taipei, Singapore, Penang, Bangkok for more than 30 years in railway infrastructure planning, design and construction supervision, including MRT and high-speed rail projects.

More recently, Ir Chua was the Technical Director for the Engineering Study of the Cross Boarder RTS project between Malaysia and Singapore, and the Project Manager of the Design Team for KVMRT SBK Line Northern Elevated Section, working under AECOM Malaysia.

Ir Chua is a Corporate Member of IEM and ICE. He is also a registered Professional Engineer with BEM and a Chartered Engineer with Engineering Council in UK.

• Registered member participant shall attend the seminar himself/herself personally. In the event a representative has been sent to attend, the representative must be a member of the same grade, otherwise the difference in registration fee must be paid before admission is allowed.
• Attendance by representative will not be issued with the Certificate of Attendance.
• All participants are to present their NRIC card for verification upon signing for attendance.
