Summary
The Penang state government and Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP) have been, with the cooperation from Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), contemplating and endeavouring in upgrading the infrastructure to
safeguard the security and safety of the people in Penang. One of the initiatives and effort taken by the state government and MBPP is through close surveillance and monitoring by installing CCTV cameras to
curb and reduce crime in order to provide a save and liveable city.
Up to present time, a total of 767 CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations on the Penang island. An additional 150 more cameras will be joining the force. Apart from initial objective of crime
prevention and traffic control, MBPP has taken a step further by using the CCTV cameras in developing a Smart City System concept. Smart City System concept involves building an Intelligent Operation Centre (IOC) for data collection and monitoring works carried out by MBPP. The system enables intelligent video analysis for the following activities: -

Participants will be able to see and witness the operation of MBPP traffic control centre. They will be briefed by MBPP officer about the Smart City System and learn about how this state-of-the-art technology
can be effectively put into use to smart-manage the city and provide improved quality of life to make Penang the best and safest place to live in.
