Sustainable Nickel for Electric Vehicle Application:
Role of Asia in Processing, Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain
Date : 27th October 2021 (Wed)
Time : 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Venue : Zoom Online Platform
Moderator : Ir Dr Jason Tan
Details of Zoom will be provided 2 days before event
Synopsis
In 2020, Elon Musk, founder of Tesla Motors asked world nickel producers to mine more nickel, an important material in the manufacture of batteries for electric vehicles (EV). While EVs aim to replace petrol and diesel vehicles to bring down emissions, the environmental impact of nickel mining and processing can be quite high. This is particularly true if the nickel used comes from nickel laterites mined in the developing world such as Indonesia where large bulk deposits are found.
This talk examines the sustainability of the global nickel supply chain and the strategic position that Asia can take in the nickel market, slated for growth in the near future.
