Synopsis

What is Active Mobility? How do you commute to work or get around your neighbourhood everyday? Is it affordable, accessible, safe and equitable for you and your loved ones?

Join us for our very first Technical Walkabout around the streets of George Town, Penang, entitled “MIPNB-IEMPG Active Mobility Walkabout 2022”, held in collaboration between Malaysian Institute of Planners Northern Branch (MIPNB) and The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia Penang Branch (IEMPG). TPr. Amelia Neoh (MIPNB) and Ir. Ong Sheng How (IEMPG) will be your hosts and walking guides for the day - both enthusiasts of Active Mobility.

In this Technical Walkabout, our main focus is to observe, discuss, critic and propose what makes a good pedestrian walkway. We encourage everyone (yes, that’s you) to talk about how this relates to your neighbourhood, communities and cities. We encourage all our participants to take photos and videos, as we walk along the walkways of George Town. #ActiveMobilityWalkaboutPenang

Your hosts will share practical knowledge and experiences of walking, cycling and riding public transport from urban planning and transportation engineering perspectives. Intertwined between these discussions are opportunities to review existing pedestrian infrastructures, public spaces, and public transport facilities and its surroundings. We will then explore how walking can contribute to sustainable, resilient, equitable, prosperous, safe and healthy city planning for people – the elderly, OKU, children, women and neurodiverse – leaving no one behind.

Register with us, Today!
