Synopsis

With the rising trend of energy efficiency in buildings and the implementation of the UBBL By-Law 38A, it is vital to understand the pressing need to develop a metal roofing system that can meet performance criteria and architectural design needs.

The speakers will firstly provide insights on selecting a metal roofing system suitable for the building’s functionality and design intention and introducing several roof systems that able to meet the thermal (U-Valve) and acoustic (STC Rating) requirements for the comfort of your building.

In addition, the speakers will be presenting the core benefits of using coated steel for roofing and cladding that can address both your building aesthetic and statutory requirements. They will also share a case study of a building with metal roof using coated steel that is located at the coastal environment that is able to withstand the harsh environment for more than 15 years, thus revealing the secret behind the durability.

About the Speakers

Mr. Low Ping Hing

Managing Director

Low Ping Hing graduated from Monash University, Australia with a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering in 1983. Upon graduation, he worked for over four years as a structural design engineer as well as a resident engineer in a private engineering consultant firm in Kuala Lumpur.

In 1988, Low ventured into the metal roofing industry. Over the last 32 years, he has accumulated vast experiences across different fields, including Sales, Marketing, Project Management and providing technical advisory for metal roofing solutions. Over the years, he has done many sharing of his experience on technical solutions to PAM, IEM, RISM as well as various universities and colleges.

Low is a member of SIRIM Technical Committee in setting up Malaysia Standard, MS 2523:2013 titled Metal Sheet Roof and Wall Cladding: Test Method. He was also actively involved in the development of National Occupational Skill and Standard (NOSS) for metal roofing by CIDB Malaysia. He is currently the Managing Director of Swissma Building Technologies Sdn Bhd.

Mr. Jack Chum

Jack Chum graduated from the Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Material Engineering, B.Eng (Hons). He has more than 18 years of working experience in steel-related industries. Currently, he is the Technical Marketing Manager of NS BlueScope Malaysia responsible for Product Innovation and Technical Services covering Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and South Africa.

He is actively involved with professional bodies such as Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) and government bodies such as Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) in conducting technical seminar regarding coated steel for metal roofing, wall cladding and light weight structural steel application.

He is also a member of the Technical Committee (TC) with Jabatan Standard Malaysia in setting up Malaysian Standard (MS) for Alloy Steel and Coated Steel such as MS 1196, MS 2657, MS 2383 and SIRIM Eco-Label for Coated Steel.
