Synopsis
This talk aims to acquaint participants with the knowledge of the importance of sustainable development and sustainability reporting and how it applies to construction sectors. In this talk, United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals will be introduced. The talk will also cover the sustainability themes and indicators, which are vital elements for evaluating an organization’s sustainability performance.
Besides that, the concept of sustainable development and the importance and purpose of sustainability reporting in Malaysian context will be explained, including the importance, process, and elements of sustainability reporting. The process of how to incorporate sustainability elements into business strategy, overall process of materiality assessment and the approach of stakeholder identification and engagement will also be included.
The Sustainability Reporting Guide by Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad will be served as the main reference on the principle and process of sustainability reporting.

Dr Goh Hui Weng joined River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC) in USM Engineering Campus since November 2016. Currently she is a senior lecturer with REDAC and holding the position of part time lecturer with Wawasan Open University and appointed facilitator to conduct international trainings and workshops for USains Holding. Dr Goh was the Congress Event Manager for 37th IAHR World Congress 2017 with USains Holding, and teach civil major courses for B(Tech) Construction Management Programme and Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) courses for MBA in Construction Management (MBACM) and MBA in Manufacturing and Production Management (MBAMPM) Programmes for Wawasan Open University since Feb 2011. She has been involved in various course development for both programmes, such as Sustainabilities, Environmental, Safety and Health Issues, Building Materials, Infrastructures and Structural Elements, Construction Project Case Studies, Basic Surveying and Building Constructions and Advanced Construction Technology.
Prior to joining Wawasan Open University, Dr Goh held the post of Senior Engineer at the Safety Services Department, SMRT Trains Ltd, the biggest public transport provider in Singapore. She was one of the lead auditors for planning and implementation of Environment, Safety and Health Management System in SMRT. She is also a OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor and conducted audit trainings for internal auditors for SMRT.
Dr Goh joined consultancy firm specializes in civil engineering upon graduation from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2005 and served as structural design engineer for 3 years. Since 2006, she is a graduate member of Institute of Engineer Malaysia (IEM). In 2010, she is graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering. Her research areas are Urban Drainage Best Management Practices (BMPs), Water Resources Management, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) related issues in various workplaces.
