At year 2011, due to constraint in land availability, the Ampang Jajar Transfer Station was used to serve both Mainland and Penang Island at the capacity of 1100 tons per day, running 24 hour shifts 7 days a week. Subsequently, plans were made for MBPP to have Waste Transfer Station at Batu Maung, Penang Island to reduce Ampang Jajar Transfer Station operating load.
